Traffic injury
Road traffic accidents have been recognized as a growing public health problem in Arabian Gulf countries (Bener et al. 2003). In Oman, the mortality rate of traffic accidents has actually increased from 25 deaths per 100 000 population in 2002 to 29 deaths per 100 000 population in 2007, with mostly young men affected (ROEM 2010). In UAE, within the category of accidental deaths from known causes, road traffic related injuries accounted for the largest number of accidental deaths in 2012 (Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi Foundation 2009).
