Causes
Access to improved drinking water and sanitation facilities sits at only 55% and 53% of the population (EMRHSO 2006). The coverage of health services didn’t cover more than 30% of the rural population and 45% of the total population even before the war. Only about 25% of health services are delivered by qualified health professionals. The 2011 civil war even worse the situation (GHO 2013).
Impact on Health of population
60% of the population is at high risk of contracting malaria. Measles is the fourth leading contributor of the mortality of children under five years old and is responsible for 12% of total death situation (GHO 2013).
Possible solutions and role of government and NGOs
UNICEF are the largest provider of immunization in Yemen currently. WHO and local governorates conducted anti fogging campaign in July of this year. The government of Yemen need to improve water and sanitation access for all people and strengthen the health system situation (GHO 2013).
